Terms of Use
Effective date: 29 July 2026
These Terms govern your use of the Expense Tracker app and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If the age of digital consent in your country is higher, that age applies instead.
- You must provide accurate registration information and a working email address, which you verify before your account becomes active.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your password and for everything done through your account.
2. Service Description
Expense Tracker helps you record what you spend by photographing receipts. The Service includes:
- Receipt capture and reading: you photograph a receipt and, if you have enabled receipt scanning, it is read automatically to pre-fill the merchant, amount, currency, date, category and — optionally — the individual line items.
- Expenses: reviewing, correcting and confirming an expense, adding notes, ratings and further photos.
- Reports: totals by week, month, year or all time, broken down by category or merchant, as a chart or a calendar.
- Map and Explore: your confirmed expenses shown at the place they happened, and an aggregated view of typical spend and ratings for places, drawn from all users' visits.
- Shared groups: creating or joining a group by invite code and sharing selected receipts with its members.
- Notifications: push and email notifications, which you control in Settings.
Features, limits and timings may evolve over time.
3. Automated Receipt Reading
- Receipt scanning is optional and off until you turn it on. The app asks for your consent before the first receipt image leaves your device, and you can withdraw that consent at any time in Settings.
- When it is on, the receipt image is sent to a third-party AI service provider, acting as our processor, to be read. See our Privacy Policy for details.
- Automated reading is an aid, not a guarantee. Results can be wrong, incomplete, or missing entirely. Every extracted field is marked as automatically filled and you are responsible for checking it before confirming.
- Expense Tracker is a personal record-keeping tool. It is not accounting, tax, bookkeeping or financial advice, and its output is not a substitute for your own records or for professional advice.
- If you decline scanning, the Service remains fully usable — you enter expenses yourself.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Upload content you have no right to upload, or that infringes anyone's rights.
- Upload illegal, hateful, sexually exploitative, or violent content, or any material depicting the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor (see our Child Safety Standards).
- Use the receipt-scanning feature for content that is not your own receipt or invoice — in particular, do not use it as a general-purpose image or document reader.
- Upload other people's personal data without a lawful basis for doing so.
- Attempt unauthorized access, reverse engineering, scraping, or disruption of the Service.
- Use the Service for fraud, spam, or unlawful activity, or in a way that imposes an unreasonable load on it.
5. Your Content
- You retain ownership of your content, including receipt photos, notes and ratings.
- You grant us a non-exclusive license to host, process and display your content solely to operate and improve the Service.
- By sharing a receipt with a group you allow the other members of that group to see it for as long as it is shared. Removing it from the group, leaving the group, or being removed from it ends that access.
- Ratings you give a place may be included, in aggregate and without identifying you, in the averages shown to other users in Explore.
6. Shared Groups
- Anyone with a valid invite code can join a group, so treat a code like a password and share it only with people you intend to include.
- The group owner can rename the group, remove members, hand ownership to another member, and delete the group. Deleting a group unshares its receipts; it does not delete them.
- A receipt you share stays yours: only you can edit or delete it, and it leaves the group when you leave or remove it.
- Group sizes and the number of groups you can join may be limited.
7. Availability and Changes
- We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service, and we may set or adjust limits (for example on uploads, group sizes, or scanning volume).
- We may retire features. Where a change materially affects you, we will give notice in the app or by email where reasonably practicable.
8. Termination
- You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time — in the app under Settings → Account → Delete account, or through our web deletion form.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.
- Deleting your account deletes your data as described in the Privacy Policy. Aggregated statistics that can no longer be linked to you may remain.
9. Fees
Any fee that applies to the Service, or to an individual feature within it, is shown to you before you commit to it. We will not charge you for anything without showing you the price first. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are additionally subject to that platform's own terms, including its refund rules.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of uninterrupted operation, accuracy, and fitness for a particular purpose. In particular, we do not warrant that automatically extracted receipt data is accurate or complete, and we are not responsible for decisions you make on the basis of it.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for intent and gross negligence.
12. Backups
We take reasonable measures to keep your data safe, but you remain responsible for retaining any records you are legally required to keep — for example receipts needed for tax or reimbursement — independently of this Service.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Austria, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence. The courts of Vienna, Austria have jurisdiction where permitted by law.
14. Platform Notices
- Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and are not responsible for the Service.
- Any claims regarding the app should be directed to us and not to Apple or Google, except where applicable platform rules provide otherwise.
